timeatlas.com: Why Can’t I Open Chrome Email Links? Last Updated 2021-Jan-21 by Anne Hennegar

Anne Hennegar's post shows 4 solutions. I've shown the first solution below.

Firefox Browser

If you use Chrome as your main browser and Gmail and you click on an email link in Firefox, Firefox will open the link in Chrome/Gmail.

Edge Browser

If you use Chrome as your main browser and Gmail and you click on an email link in Edge, Edge will open the link in Chrome/Gmail.

Solution 1 – Set the Protocol Handler

  1. Open up Google Chrome.
  2. Open Gmail in one of the tabs.
  3. Look at the right side of the address bar for the Protocol Handler icon. It looks like 2 intersecting diamonds.

  4. Click the handler icon.
  5. A window opens saying: Allow mail.google.com to open all email links?.
  6. Choose the Allow radio button.
